Class 484

A newer fleet for Island Line

As part of the investment into Island Line, we will be introducing five Class 484 trains onto the network. They’ll replace the 82-year-old Class 483 trains that are currently operating on Island Line.

In keeping with Island Line’s traditions, the Class 484 trains are former London Underground trains, extensively refurbished by Vivarail in Long Marston.

These newer trains will thoroughly modernise the customer experience on Island Line bringing new features such as free on-board WiFi, improved passenger information, at seat charging points and wheelchair spaces.

With five trains in service, we will also be able to run longer trains at busier times, such as during the summer.

The first train has been built, and will soon arrive on the island for testing, before entering service following the engineering works at the beginning of 2021.
